How Shamanic Essences Work

How the Essences Are Made

Many plants from the Earth Mother come with healing capacities and energies that can help you move through and heal emotional, psychological, and spiritual issues, which can, in turn, affect physical health issues; however, the Essences do not work in the same way as plants that are used in Western medicine. Shamanic Essences affect subtle energies, which may or may not be directly palpable to you, depending upon your level of sensitivity. Furthermore, these Essences work with you, helping you in your work on your issues; they do not do the work for you. If, for example, you are suffering from depression because you're not in alignment with your soul's mission or work, Allamanda or Redwood will not instantly relieve your depression (for that would defeat the purpose of the discomfort of the depression!), but will support your work towards alignment, thereby helping you address the cause. This is as it should be, as we are empowered to actively engage in the growth of the soul.

The making of the Shamanic Essences begins with a Respectful Relationship between the Shaman and the Plant or Tree Spirit. That relationship is cultivated over time, with the Shaman gradually coming to understand the aspects of deep healing that the Spirit is offering. A second Shaman is consulted to independently validate the information received. Thanks to Beth Terrence for validating these findings!

With permission of the Spirit, a part of the plant or tree is taken and allowed to sit in water (that comes from Mount Shasta) either in the sun, the shade or in front of a fire, according to the instructions given by the Spirit. The water is then mixed with brandy to extend the shelf life of the Essence. During this process, a Shamanic Ceremony is performed to invite the Spirit to bless and imbue the energies into the Essence. Many times, these Spirits have come to Selena offering their healing energies for use in this way, so there is loving intention from the very start of the process!!

All of Our Essences are "Mother Essences!"

The Essences are made with spring water infused with the energy of the Plant or Tree and brandy (an inert ingredient that keeps the water pure). The ratio of Essence water to brandy is 50:50 for the Shamanic Essences that you buy or approximately 300:300 drops, which is considered a Mother Essence. The Mother Essence is more potent and can either be diluted or taken without further dilution. To understand the potency, the most well known flower Essence brand contains about one drop of original flower Essence for every ounce of fluid, for a ratio of 1:599. Thus, please keep in mind that you are using a Mother Essence with about 300 drops of Essence water per ounce, and use appropriately. If your practitioner is mixing a combination of Essences for you, it is likely that they are diluted with (hopefully) spring water and will need to be refrigerated. Ask your individual practitioner for further details.
